Words of Wisdom: Real Bride Confessions

26 Aug

Cindy, my new sister-in-law, is one of the most genuine and honest people I have met, ever. Her backyard wedding (featured this past Wednesday!) was a hit for everyone in attendance and she has decided to pass on some words of wisdom for all of you other backyard brides! Listen closely…

1. Do not panic. Things are going to happen that you expect. Things are going to happen that you don’t expect. Rather than stressing out over these little surprises, focus on enjoying your day. When you look  back on the day in pictures, you aren’t going to remember that the lemonade ran out. You are going to remember all of the love and happiness that were had on that day in your own home.

2. If you have guests staying at your home the week-of, do not expect it to stay as beautiful as the Taj Mahal. If you spend your entire wedding week stalking your guests and cleaning up every little mess to make your home spotless, you will drive yourself (and your family and friends) nuts. Obviously you’d like your home to be picked up and looking nice, but you don’t want your home to look like no one lives there! That takes away from the homey and comfortable feel. 🙂

3. Let your friends help!! At Cindy’s wedding, her cupcakes were baked by a friend, her flowers were delivered by a friend and arranged by us all, her brother took over kitchen duties, her father took care of grilling duties, my dad and brother kept the bar stocked, and the music entertainment was provided by a family friend just to name a few of the helping hands…oh and I served as wedding coordinator! Cindy’s friends and family stepped up in a major way and it really showed on the big day. Don’t be afraid to ask your friends for help…chances are, they are just dying for you to ask!!
